Hello PSBBS'ers,

I have some thoughts on the platform. Although most sysops use DOS on
their systems, I agree that OS/2 is a better (more convenient perhaps)
platform to write the BBS on. For now, it is not important (because my
Borland C++ 1.5 package compiles ANSI C just fine).

Some thoughts (just brainstorming):

Pro's:
- OS/2 is inexpensive, especially with the arrival of Win95. I bought my
copy of OS/2 Warp (the latest version) for just under $75.
- IBM is releasing a new OS/2 in a while, with speach support, new look,
and other nice improvements. Maybe more people will use it then.
- There are not many Packet programs for OS/2, and I beleive there isn't a
BBS for OS/2 at all.
- OS/2 will support easy multitasking, so message management can be done by
an external program (email program?) while the BBS keeps on running.
MultiThreading is a nice option here.
- It should be easier to build a GUI in OS/2 which looks really neat.

Cons:
- I do not have much experience in programming OS/2 applications (not a big
point, I will learn)
- Baycom modems (and more of those kind of modems) cannot be supported.
( pro is: This way we avoid a lot of timing problems, and I think a BBS has
'better' modems than a baycom, because it wants to support more users with
different speeds, for example)
- People will have to install OS/2. This is not a problem I think, but it
will scare some sysops. Once you get used to it, you will find that OS/2 is
a great and user friendly environment (better that Linux). You can then
also see where Microsoft got it's ideas from :->>> (Watch the OS/2 clock,
which is EXACTLY the same as the Win95 clock)

Personally, using OS/2 for PSBBS is my favorite for now (although I am not
knowing how easy it is to program under OS/2), but means I can't sell my
TNC for now.

What do you think?

73's !

Rolf.
