Just bought a used packet station for 2 meters. Using a KPC-3 at 1200 baud. I
live near O'Hare airport. Can someone give me a list of local packet
stations?
Thanks

Sure, try ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/ham/mac

Yea - guess so. I didn't actually sit down and decide I was going to run
KPC over anything else. First TNC I ever had was a TNC2 Clone
(MFJ-1270B). Never had a chance to get it up and running as the next day
a fella made me a good deal on it. The next available TNC was a KPC3+ -
got a good deal on it and haven't been disappointed. What I've been
doing and interested in with packet hasn't required any TNC2 specific
hardware dealings. Just stuck with using the KPC3+ since I was used to
it. Kantronics has also been most excellent on responding to questions
via e-mail - good support!.

Nope, not only has it not been a problem, hasn't been a concern at all.
My KPC communicates with several TNC2 Clones with no prob. After having
only read that MFJ's manual my impression is the KPC is a bit easier to
get setup and running. The software I've used that asked for a 'TNC2
Clone' has performed just fine on my KPCs. The only software that won't
work has been that which requires a specific ROM/Firmware in the TNC.
These ROM/Firmware chips can be acquired from several sources and they
will NOT work in a KPC.
I feel the KPC's are a 'bit more polished' than that MFJ was. I
personally liked the KPC's built in PBBS a bit better - makes for a nice
(and limited) fall back if MSYS or my PC crash for some reason (hasn't
happened yet ::knock on wood::). The documentation that came with the
KPC was a whale of a lot nicer to work with as well. Since I'm comparing
an older model MFJ with a newer KPC - probably isn't a fair comparison.
If you're wanting to get into the hardware innards of your TNC, and want
a 'help up' by referring to the wealth of info and components available
for the TNC2, then a TNC2 clone is for you. If you want a full featured,
easy to use, versatile TNC and don't plan on using any TNC2 specific
add-ons, then a KPC may well be for you.
