Subject: SOUNDCARD SAVES HAM RADIO PACKET?

Programs like AGW Packet engine 2000.72 now allow your Pentuim +
soundcards to take the place of TWO 9600/1200 TNC's! Combined with a
easy to tap into "true FM" rig you can do 9600. 1200 baud requires no
modification.

Can you say new and free (with what you may have) 9600 baud network?

Could this revive Packet?

9600 is fast enough for TCP/IP and is wireless. One can use your
regular Internet programs. FTP, HTTP, Newsgroups, Telnet ect.

Can you think of some real benefits from this?

Sure, work on faster but don't forget the cost!

Further if you don't think this is in the "spirit" of ham radio or
something then simply go and do what you will. Just don't dictate what
I do. TO EACH HIS OWN!

Stop the bickering. You'll make us all look bad. If you want to do only
CW then I GOT NO PROBLEM WITH THAT! Just mind your own business and
don't rain on my parade. I think it's wise to combine various
mode/bands whatever for a communication benefit. If we don't focus on
some benefits ham radio will soon be sold off.

So I hope you get my point. Don't turn this news into a bar brawl. I
hope I'm clear. If you don't want to do anything but RF or CW or
Internet or whatever then fine. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT! That's OK.
I am simply on a quest for benefits. Benefits for emergency, benefits
for everyday. Ask yourself; when the fun (of tinkering) is over, what's
left?

Plus! While this is a technical hobby, let's not fail to distill THE
TECH down (EASY OF USE) so new hams and the not so technical can
benefit form it AND GET STARTED. After all guys, intelligence isn't
that big a deal compared to communication and caring. Let's stop trying
to prove how smart we are and get down to business.

Sorry for the rant. I've just seen too many "bar brawls" when someone
tries to promote a real benefit in Ham Radio. What can you say about
the soundcard "revival"?

God bless
Be well
