Subject: Advice on setup please

Hi

I've been asked by someone who is a long way from any kind of telephone
connection how they can get connected to the net for e-mails and such like.
I know nothing about ham radio other than the fact that it is possible to
use it for net connections.

How would someone stuck in the middle of nowhere (a tropical island) get a
net connection via ham radio. What are the steps they have to go through,
where's the best places to get the kit? Are there any faqs or web sites that
can provide useful information?

TIA

John Small

Al,
I must say that I find your audacious gall to be not only amazing and
unbelievable, it is utterly outrageous and revolting!! The nerve of your
concocting and posting such unwarranted and slanderous absurdity as
this
demonstrates the perfect example of your reprobate character, as well as
your obvious lack of respect and consideration for others.
The equipment was purchased in 1983 which was 17 years ago, and it has
been in service since. Perhaps you can buy a piece of equipment using it
daily for 17 years and keep it looking factory new, though I have doubts
that you could, or anyone else for that matter. Sure, the unit has a few
scratches on it and could use a some cleaning up, I admit. You're buying
a piece of test equipment that sold new for $16,000.00 which still sells
on the open market today for between $3,000.00 and $5,500.00 each. I had
a price of $1,500.00 on this unit, which is a fair price. I suggest that
if you want a unit that looks new, stroke out the check for $10,000.00 +
or find one that has not been used very much.
I drove for nearly 2 hours myself to bring this unit up there, only to
have a prick like yourself waste my time, the only thing strange was the
fact that you didn't leave there with your teeth in your shirt pocket...

                                                Sincerely - Rick C Davis

Anything but 'excellent condition' and 'top notch'.

I drove an hour+ to see this unit. Glad I did. Met at HRO in
Woodbridge, VA. Unit was very dirty, worn, etc. Wanted cash vs
cashier's check as I was leaving to meet him. Something was strange....

Recommend you see unit before buying from this person.

73, Al
