Subject: How to setup Winpack or TSTHWIN.
Hi,
I like to know how to setup Winpack and/or TSTHWIN using WIN95. I mean how
do I handle the COM-ports. Winpack does'nt see any valid COM-port(I have 2
of them) and WIN95 seems to handle the COM-ports in another way. Same goes
for TSTHWIN. To be short;I can't get it working. I will use a KPC3 TNC for
packet communication. How do I put this in the KISS-mode under WIN95 and keep
it there?.
I use to work with these program under Win 3.11 and/or under MSDOS.
COM1 mouse
COM2 Psion
COM3 56K modem
I know COM-ports may be shared, irq may not. Any Info on this, Tnx
Helium.

WinPack should see all those ports. However, if you try to select COM1
in WinPack "Comms Setup", then you should get an error message saying
"An error occurred initialising the COM port for WinPack. Please check
the COM settings". You get that message because the mouse will be
permanently using the port.
If "Psion" is permanently using COM2, then you'll a similar error
message. If it isn't using the port all the time, then WinPack should be
able to access the port when Psion isn't using it.
As regards the modem, when your modem isn't active, WinPack should be
able to access COM3. When the modem is active, e.g. you're connected to
the internet, then you'll get the a similar error message. For example,
I'm connected to the internet at the moment, so WinPack can't access my
modem port. However, when I disconnect from the internet, WinPack can
access the modem port.
If that doesn't explain your problems, and you can't access COM2 and
COM3 even when they're not in use by other applications, then you have a
problem with your Windows installation.
