comes on whenever I hear the packets.

But the TNC doesn't send the packet text to the computer - most of the time.

I am in MONITOR mode, MALL is on and MRPT is on. Just when I was thinking
the thing wasn't working at all, the following line appeared on the screen:

W7ALN-12>ID:TheNet Plus 2.12st (ESPR)

Over the next few hours, I saw several more of these ID messages, but
nothing else. I was able to find a counter in the TNC that keeps track of
bad packets received, and there were quite a few. I put the TNC in TRACE
mode and saw that each packet was coming through at least as hexadecimal,
and I could read the call signs, but the text was gibberish.

I then set the TNC to accept non-AX.25 packets and this resulted in more
text appearing, but it wasn't too meaningful:

W7ALN-12>ID:TheNet Plus 2.12st (ESPR)

W7ALN-12>N7DXT-1:lpn@a
                      n`lp
W7ALN-12>N7DXT-1:lpn@a
                      [RLI-19.13-HIX$]

So, at this point, I'm not sure where my problems are (other than not
knowing much about packet radio).

If anyone can offer some suggestions I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for
your time.

Radiation from the monitor or video card. When it changes into
graphics mode (to show the desktop screen), the vertical and
horizontal sync frequencies to the monitor are different, which is why
you only get them in graphics mode.

Perhaps ferrites around the VGA cable will help, but I am not
experienced in this area so I am guessing.
