Hello Kirk,  check out the modem for the TCM3105  chip this is the modem IC
used on quite a few baycom type packet modems.  They are quite rare nowadays
but were used in a lot of the old 2400 baud telephone modems.  I do have
instruction sheets for a couple of these
packet modems if you want them, boards are available in the UK for these,
though I think you would find them locally too.
