There are several modems that you can construct that connect directly to the
serial port of a PC. Then you add the software, and there is lots of it out
there. They all work good. I run a commercial one called the Baypak here
with an ax25 driver tsr and jnos tcp/ip mailbox 24/7 with no problems at
all.
Look on the web sites such as the Bavarian Group in Europe, they designed
the Baycom modem. There is also one called the Hamcom that you build, the
parts cost around 6 bucks. Have fun.

You can use a 9 to 25 232 cable to connect to comport 2. The rest of the
installation depends on the software you are using. If you are running
WIN95/98/NT download PkTerm'99 from http://www.timewave.com to help you get it
on the air. It has an excellent checkout section in the help file. The demo
runs in VHF mode only, but will let you get on the air. Let me know if you
need further help.

Further to Jim's comment, the current release appears to be 6.42

Hi,

I am very new to packet radio, having just purchased my first TNC & data
ready V/UHF Knwd TM-G707A.

The documentation that came with both the radio & the TNC are unfortunately
not clear enough for me to take the data output cable and match pin for pin
from the radio to the TNC. I saw where someone else who posted has the
TMV7A which is very similar to the radio I have and has the same connection
to a TNC (6 pin mini din data port).

Can anyone give any suggestions? Also, does anyone happen to know what
freq's in Central MA I can connect to a PBBS?

Thanks & 73's

Dave / N1OWC
