Hi there,

This may sound like a dumb question but is HF pretty dead at the
moment?

I ask because I'm new to this hobby and only got my new HF radio
yesterday (FT450) and as yet I haven't heard a lot on it.

I'm in Adelaide and late last night I heard a guy in Bairnsdale Vic
but other than that and one other CW station that was too fast for me,
haven't heard anything else. Plenty of static that's worse during the
day but not much else.

I expected to turn this thing on and hear the world. I suspect that
was unrealistic?

FYI my antenna is a Hustler vertical that's tuned in nicely with low
SWR and resonance in the middle of each band. Got a MFJ256b anaylser -
good gadget!

Am I just listening at the wrong times? Maybe midday on a cold
tuesday isn't that good but it only very slightly improved last night.

I'm particularly interested in CW and have been practicing read and
send for months. Are there good times for working even local CW?

Thanks.

Dene
