Hi Greg. Here's what I did to make Olivia work on my 200 MHz P-II Win98 machine:
1) Forget using OliviaAid. It locked up my com port, too.
2) you need to manually edit the Win98 registry to add the Olivia data. Just open the one
supplied in the Cygfix folder (it's for WinXP) with Notepad to see what goes where.
3) it's a bit of a pain, but open two DOS cli windows, run the Olivia TX program in one of
them, and the RX in the other. Switch back and forth. Look at Pawel's web site for
instructions for this, or I can tell you later...it's pretty simple.
4) You're going to have to run VOX switching with this setup. Set the audio level out of PC
speakers, tape a microphone to the speaker, and fire away!
It's clumsy, but it works. I conducted an hour of tests this weekend without much
annoyance.
