Actually it is Bill gates, and marketing. I know the first thought is
that if it is free, it can't be as good. The truth is that as far as I
can see, it is just as good, or better. That is why Bill gates spends
almost a trillion dollars advertizing. Tink about this, Why are so many
big companies like GM, and even so many countries Like Brazil making the
switch?

If Linux was hard, I wouldn't have changed over. I am lazy, and like it
easy.

Interoperability really isn't an issue. Neither is what modes will
operate, nor the software availability. If you doubt me, then just do a
Google or Yahoo search for what you need. You will see that there isn't
much that Linux won't support.

As for me and my equipment during an emergency, I will be bringing Linux
boxes. Not that I have a real issue with Microsoft. I just want the most
stable, easiest system I can provide for anyone that will be operating
with me. This might be another ham, or it could be just another
secretary from the pool. Last thing I want to do is creat an environment
where I have to be diverted from my other tasks.

I also want a system where it is fool-proof. I don't want to have to
worry about an operator of any system accidentally being able to distroy
a system by misguided heystrokes or mouse clicks. One thing that Linux
is known for is it's inherent stability. It is not possible for an
operator to delete or erase a program by accedent as it take
administrative privleges to install/remove a program.

I have to ask this question. Do you not have training sessions for your
team? This would be the time for everyone to get to know the computers
that you will be using, whether they are M$ or LX or whatever OS. Not
during a mission.
