A spectrum analyzer would require that the duty cycle of the distortion 
would be long enough to be captured in the bandpass of the sweep. 1% 
would be -40dB in relation to the peak of the signal. A better choice 
might be a selective level meter covering the band under test. Then the 
known tones would have to measured first, then look for the anomalies.
