Well, I know that the Prospector and the India Pacific travel at 70 mph
since that is well publicised. The Metropolitan lines would not travel
that fast but I am sure I read somewhere that they can hit 60 mph on long
straights. Of course in the Metro area itself they would hardly reach high
speeds since the stations are too close together.

There are two problems with the Metro lines - parking space at the
stations; people drive to the nearest station and park, catchin g a train
into the city, and violence by some of our youth who think it is funny to
gang up on a passenger and give him as good kicking. Train guards have
been employed but they have limited powers of arrest and don't seem to be
the solution. This mob of wild youth is one reason I moved to Albany 37
years ago, where you can still walk the streets at night in safety.I don't
know what is the solution to wild violent youth. IT seems all big cities
have the problem these days. A few years ago the Government in this state
built boot camps where wild youth were supposed to be sent for a rigorous
programme of physical activity, you know the style of camp I guess, but
the judges did not use them and the experiment failed for that reason.

Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.
