I have just been reading the Times On Line.
The article is about European & US airlines having problems with fuel costs.
There is a littany of airlines and how much they have lost in the last year.
However the clincher is at the end of the article where the US airline
Continental has admitted that because they are using smaller aircraft on the
London to New York route they have had 96 occassions where aircraft had low
fuel problems when approaching New York.
They are using 757s instead of the larger 767s as they are easier to fill
and use less fuel. The range of the 757 is 3900 Nm which is enough except
when they get unexpectedly stronger head winds.
You can read all about in in the Times on Line for the 25th April.
I can't get the url into this bulletin beause I am using LinFBB and I don't
have a paste facility.
Now in case you Poms say oh well you know the yanks, it appears that BA is
planning to do the same and use 757s from Amsterdam and Paris to New York.
Isn't that even further ?
Done your swimming training laterly ?
Some time ago I said the onset of peak oil would be signalled by the
canary in the mine, ie the airlines would start having mergers and bankrupture.
