Warren, it is a never ending source of wonder to me the way you people
rubbish your Government, both you people and certain citizens of the UK.
The suspicion you seem to have that the Government is going to do you
dirty no matter what. I can make an appointment and go and talk to the
Member of Parliament in my electorate and get a fair hearing. I have done
this when there was an issue with groups with which I was associated. My
MP lives a few streets away. The Federal Member, though treated as a joke
by some members of the other parties because he gives them whatoh! is also
equally accessible. They follow up what I put to them and I get a
courteous reply. What more should I expect?
If I see a member of the Government facing a TV camera and making a
statement of interest I can be quite sure that is NOT media spin. It is a
genuine statement.OK, someone from the other side of the country with a
different state government might have had a different experience - I don't
know. They can speak for themselves. Not all our MPs might be as good,
there are good and bad everywhere. However I don't detect the cynicism
among West Australians that my acquaintances in the USA display towards
their Government. I have plenty of contacts in the USA through several
chat rooms and lists to which I subscribe.I have good friends over
there.Once when one Yank was criticising the new Australian gun laws
(which he thought were interfering with the common rights of the people)
he said he needed a gun in case the Government (of USA) tried to put a
swifty over on him. Now what did he mean? He was going to conduct a one
man civil war in the nation? He could not accept that Australians
generally demanded that the Government do something about the possession
of certain weapons when an idiot went into a cafe and gunned down about 30
people. The Government acted swiftly. You have had some problems with
similar incidents over there, Warren, but you still have the guns.
The statement I made on what you see as media spin was that the State
Government was going to replace all its diesel buses with those powered by
natural gas by 2010. Now why should that be "media spin"?
As for anti pollution devices on cars, you have us wrong, Warren. The
catalytic crackers have been mandatory here also for many years,
certainly more than 30. I remember the fuss made when they were made
compulsory here; some people disconnected them as the first catalytic
crackers bumped up fuel consumption. That was in the late 60s or early
70s. I don't know what happens with your cars. We see very few American
cars here, but we have the same Toyotas and other Japanese makes though
they too are made in Australia these days. You are not telling me anything
new there.Try telling me something I don't know.
You back on form, Warren., It has been lonely without you!!! Give us a
kiss!!!
