Hi Peter and all,

That's one of those "urban legends" that have been floating around for 
years, I haven't checked this site yet but I'm sure you'll find the 
rocket car splat is false. My information comes from elsewhere, 
Mythbusters is one.

Adam and Jamie reproduced the car and it took off alright but not quite 
as dramatically. There have been other and official experiments with 
rocket power and one driver commented "never again". A bit more reading 
is in order, you'll find there is a difference between JATO (like the VW 
bug) and RATO which was used in these experiments.
