Hi Warren and others,
When I was a wee small lad (around the 1940's) we also had a vehicle
powered by a gas producer but apart from all the usual matrials used for
producing the gas we used wheat.
It produced a good quality gas and as Warren says lots of tar. Journeys
were measured in wheatbags per journey not liters or miles per gallon.
On the journey he biggest problem was disposing of the spent fuel without
starting a bushfire.
The cars strted on petrol but once running that was it. No changing to
petrol just drop back to a lower gear ans move a lot slower.
