Ian commented on the use of ethanol in Brazil.
From my reading only some cars in Brazil run on 100% ethanol.
I gather that most run on a mixture. Their cars can sense the mix and adjust
the fuel system automatically.

Ethanol only provides about 60% of the energy that petrol provides so you get
that much less milage, in proportion to the mix. I suspect that is why 100%
is not used totally as the cars performance is less.
I know it is used in racing cars but there may be other considerations.

The biodiesel and ethnol plants have closed here in Australia. Not certain
why, I think it might be that they could not compete on price.

It is not generally realised just how big is the current fuel system.
If the whole Australian (normal year not drought) wheat harvest was turned
into ethanol it would supply just 5% of our cars needs.
In the UK you may have the space to supply busses with biodiesel but I
suspect you cannot feed the people and run all your cars on ethanol.

Better not, I like my Vita Brits of a morning !
