As usual, you puzzle me with some of your statements.

Jag or Fag ? I don't follow. We see the royal cars from time to time and, yes,
I have sen the Jaguar in a few shots on Tv but a Fag( what is that ?

I wasn't clear about the BMW connection. BMW actually owns Rolls Royce now but
the Queen seems to stick with older models made in England which is patriotic.

I suppose that makes sense, being tha Queen. As far as i know she does still
drive herself on the royal estate in Scotland but sticks to Land Rover and
Rangerover, even at her age but with no other traffic within miles and she
doesn't need a driving licence of course. Those two are also foreign owned but
I suppose that is only fair as we borrowed the Land |Rover from the Willys
Jeep after WW II. I remember hearing about jaguar being bought by Ford so they
haven't been British for a long time. I have a feeling that Jaguar was sold
again to the Indian Tata firm.

It surprised me when RR was bought by BMW and Bentley was bought by
Volkswagen.

RR aeroengines are still british owned and accepted as the best but i keep
expecting to hear that they have been bought by the Chines or some other firm.

As I ahve mentioned in other bulls, the first cars i drove were pre WWII Rolls
Royces, made almost entirely of aluminium and the odometers were six digit
unlikie the normal five in other cars, they were made to last. This was due to
my father being RR trained and an aero engine builder as well.

The big mystery with RR was why, after being 'the best car in the world' from
1906 - WWII the owners decided to make them out of steel so that they could
rust like any other car. Whether that is the reason they were taken over by
the Germans I just don't know. I suppose business beats patriotism.

At the moment, we are left with two all british car makers, the Noble, the
Cateraham and, possibly the McLaren. Mclaren races as the Maclaren mercedes
though the only German bit of the engine is the Mercedes badge. The rest is
made in England while the body is Scottish. Non of them are within reach of
the average car owner.#

BMWs are quite popular and have come down in price though the only BMW I ever
owned was an Isetta, which was a bit of a joke, I suppose.

I am not cab happy and have never driven a sports car. Most of my cars were
company cars, mainly Ford or Vauxhall (GMC). If I ever do buy another car, I
will seriously consider the Mazda R7. O.K. it's Japanese but it has the Wankel
rotary engine so it would seem a bit futuristic.

I am sorry for your friend but, at least, he managed to go out in the car he
loved. There is a joke about that but I can't print it on packet.

It is a version of "I want to die aged 100 in a sprts car, with my 20 year old
girlfriend sitting on my knee" - you have probably heard the full version :-)

All the best.
