Hi Warren and any others interested.

The SS was short for Standard Swallow in the 1930 and one of the models was
calle the Jaguar 100. I explained why the name was changed after WWII.

It is the Daimler which has always been a real mystery. They may have been
made in the UK under licence but, in the 1960s, they amalgamated with Jaguar
to become the Daimler jag, the top of the range. Then went back to being just
plain Jaguar. The Queen still has one, or maybe a lot, I don't know. She does
have Rolls Royces of course but they seem to be the last of the Brisish RRs
not just a BMW under another badge.
