One of the problems with our fuel prices, Pete, is Government tax which
is, I think from memory about 60c.p.l. on top of which is the GST of 10%.
Yes, I know what you mean about the high dollar. Our farmers and
manufacturers are complaining that our high dollar is making it difficult
for them to sell overseas. On the other hand the manufacturers get a
double belt behind the ear in that it is cheaper to import from overseas
than buy locally made goods. However overseas holidays are very cheap with
the cost of a holiday in Bali or Thailand less than a trip to Sydney.
I guess it will iron out some day.
It seems then that the $C and the $A are at about the same level compared
to the $US. One thing I know is that someone in the US got a big slice of
my superannuation in that mortgage crisis. I sold some units one week at
$A6 a unit and the next Monday they were worth 2c a unit. I am told that
if I live long enough I might get something back from the US investment
but at my age of 88 I am not holding my breath.
Yes I am pleased with the Mazda. I is a good zippy little car, and I was
surprised at how precise the steering is. It goes where you point it,
though the Ford (Australian designed and built) was a very good car. Big
car sales have taken a knock here though with the price of fuel as it is.
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.
