Hi Mike and All,
I wasn't actually back for very long, my system suffered a virus attack which
wrecked it including my just set up connection settings for GB7CIP and I had
nothing on paper to enable me to reinstall the connection.
What actually happened, was that I innocently visited a web site, which
triggered my anti-virus system to warn me (Avira AntiVir). That flagged up a
warning instantly that my system had been infected, the name of the virus and
suggested a list of web sites where I could download a remover for the virus.
Naturally I assumed the sites were genuine, so I downloaded what I thought was
a remover for the virus. The remover actually seemed to be an even more
serious virus which made my system unbootable.
The really daft part was that the very same thing happened about two years ago
and I got suckered in last week for a second time :-(
My guess is that Avira just recommend fixes based on web searches, without
actually checking the validity of their recommendations.
So for the past few days of my spare time have been spent reinstalling my
system from the OEM system restore disk and then putting things back on top
from my backups.
