re Volvo not allowing use of their hardware, maybe a call to the
Motor Traders Association might get better results Barry. A few
years ago Alan VK2XF was the Secretary, but unfortunately now he is a
silent key. However he and his brother Tom VK2TB ran the big, Burt
Brothers repair shop in Fairfield, now owned by Alan's surviving
family.
Alan was the prime mover in forcing through legislation that allowed
registered private workshops, to carry out repairs and services to
vehicles under warranty, without voiding that warranty. as was the
catch cry of that era. Much of course to the chagrin of the
dealerships, wanting to protect their lucrative trade.
They still dangle carrots though, as the dealer who sold me my
current new car, offers an additional one year warranty (with
limitations) if I put all book services through them.
We all know however, that one can save up to 25% of a book service
cost, at the nearest registered repairer.
