Tony, you are so right about the car companies being hard to get on with
re software etc.
I take my car to a Volvo mechanic who has been in the Volvo service for at
least 30 years. He is not an "official" Volvo service company.
If he needs to set up a new electronic component there is a program that
runs the engine, detects the operating parameters and adjusts the paramters
to suit the new component. They refuse to sell him the program.
Result, any one of the components that require that setting up need replacing
he cannot do the job and has to send it to an official service organisation.
I wrote to ACCC and my member of parliament and complained that this was a
restriction of trade. The official dealer charges a lot more for work.
The ACCC replied that it was not a restriction of trade !
It seems English is not a language understood at ACCC.
