Hi Bob and all,
Of course you do it differently in Australia, your geography, weather
patterns and population density are WAY different than the US so you hold
to different standards. So what elase is news? The EPA holds us to strict
emissions standards, California having mostly set the lead with state
legislation due to the above mentioned reasons, smog pollution of the Los
Angeles Basin being legendary. Motor vehicles being registered with the
states they set the emissions requirements, California once again took
the lead and New Jersey BTW is just as strict. Yes the government used a
sledgehammer, it was sorely needed and we're not through yet, when lungs
go black it's time to go green.
"However with petrol as cheap as it is in the USA who cares?"
What is that supposed to mean? I don't get the connection since we're
discussing air pollution here and those emissions requirements are
being tightened and the net result as far as petrol (and Diesel) are
concerned one of the benefits is increased fuel efficiency. I believe
I mentioned that earlier with a comment about the new generation
of Diesel locomotives. Fuel is NOT cheap when you look beyond simple
price per unit, transportation costs affect the price of everything
and it costs a small fortune to heat our homes, count your blessings
you live in a place similar to San Diego CA where heating and AC aren't
needed. Even in SA they don't spend the money we do, particularly
since this is a cool summer so they got lucky too.
Like you are in the habit of saying; "you don't live here". (;->)
