This is one for the mathermaticians amoungst us.

One  of the  pet ideas  for coping  with oil  depletion are various ideas  to
increase the flow rate of oil to get more oil out of the wells.

This article  shows why  it is  not so  simple and  while you  get more for a
period of time  that time is  surprisingly short and  the fall afterwards  is
very much steeper.

This is another case of catch 22 that seems to inhabit the oil fields.
