Hi Barry and others,
I don't know about race cars in general, but formula one race cars a few
years ago were running on "standard" petrol. I don't know if they still
are, but I do remember the F1 rules being changed at one stage when it was
decided that all F1 cars had to run on a fuel of a standard formula that
"must be of a type available to the general public".
Maybe the rules have chamged again, I don't know what the current
regulations are. The Motor Sport Association here in the UK do however
clearly state that any vehicle in use for off road racing must use
standard petrol or diesel. A local person I know races a V8 petrol
landrover based off road racing vehicle and I have read the rules
governing that branch of the sport.
