Cars have been run on the gas for a small distance, but only until the battery
has run down. It has yet to be proven that you can actually get more energy
out of the system than is put into it in electrical energy. A car engines
energy output is around say 85Kw. To produce that much gas and not defy the
laws of physics would require more than 85Kw of energy going into the
electrolysis process.
Some are simply supplementing their petrol/diesel fuel use with HHO and are
suggesting worthwhile improvements in mpg. Just a sealed box with stainless
plates + water in to run the electrolysis process and a pipe leading to a
flame trap, then leading staight onto the air intake. That simple.
I can perhaps half believe the later might work, in that the gas may act to
improve the combustion process of the petrol or diesel plus the water produced
would turn to steam.
Perhaps early days, but someone (who belongs to a car group I belong to) has
just added such a device to his car, a rather thirsty Cosworth petrol engined
one. He reports his mpg has perhaps improved by 4 to 6 mpg. This despite a
high tech engine management system.
