Hi All .. I've been reading the bulls. >CARS recently and my memory was
jogged.
It was 2-stroke motorcycles that went particularly well on a foggy
evening, it didn't seem to affect 4-stroke engines at all, and then of
course, the classic Saab rally cars (compeating with the Mini Coopers
in the '60s ? ) had 3-cylender 2-stroke engines.
There weren't any diesel cars around then, just lorries (trucks) and
Post Office delivery vans. I don't really notice any better performance
on damp/misty days now, (in my 1.7lt. non-turbo diesel small van) that
STILL gives 55mpg.
Ok on the 50cc scooter, but there certainly ARE 400/500/650cc scooters,
and the 650 Suzuki Bergman (spelling?) is insanley fast! (a bit too fast
for that small-wheel "scooter" feel).
Ah, water ..yes.. I've an SP somwhere telling me about the aero-engine
(radial) used in a recent film re-make, 2600hp or 3400hp with water
injection. (I'l look up the precise figures if anyone's interested).
I do recall those small passive tubine-propellor "whizzers" that fitted
between the inlet manifold and the carb, perhaps they promoted swirl (very
desirable) for better air/petrol distribution and cylender filling.
Also there was (on TV's Tomorrow's World) two guys fitting of a home-brew
water injection system to a Ford Escourt ... that had remarkably low toxic
emissions .. as they happily discovered by accident HI!
.. wonder what happend to them .. from Leamington Spa if I remember ...
Ah well ...
Cheers, Bill. G4LML ............73
