Oh yes. Most fuel saving devices dont work. The best fuel saving device is
your right foot. Just press it less!

I'm not actually picking on you Bob but what you write is interesting. Do
you pull the caravan every day every mile you drive? Or the boat? Nope. So
the need for a 4L car is occasional. Most of the time, a nice little car
would do you. In fact a nice little car would 99% of the drivers 99% of the
time. There's someone where everyone can save by using the correct vehicle
for the journey.
Electric cars are still a long way from ready for many mainstream uses. But
for a huge number of drivers, cars with a top speed around 50mph and a
range of about 50 miles will do for most. Charge it up at night and use it
for the daily commute/shop. The problem is most of us cant afford 2 cars, a
electric buggy and a proper car. Perhaps we need a better driver mindset!
Myself, I've started riding my bike to work. For me its a 5 mile round trip
and downhill all the way to work. So it's uphill home, but I can ride to
work and not get sweaty and work hard getting home. Half on the road and
half through the woods. 5x 5mile journeys doesnt say much in fuel per week
but it does save a huge amount of wear on the car. The best thing is how I
feel after doing it for a few months.... alive!
