That is done all the time in air conditioning system which can be reversed to
take heat from the atmosphere and put it into the building. The problem is
that efficiency goes down as the weather turns cold - which is when most of
the heating is needed.
Some of the smaller commercial units generate 2 to 5Kw of heat input, compare
that to the needs of a car for 70 to 90Kw to drive it. A unit to produce that
amount of energy would be bigger than the car.
