Just wondering if anyone has heard of a man called Pogg
who had a carb that gave very good gas mileage, enough
to cut into the profits of the oil compnays, enough
that the giant at the time based in New Jersey, brought
the design rights, and paid Pogg < Not sure of spelling
of his name > $ 1,000,000.00 big money in those days
to stay quiet.
A few years ago, I met a ham in Toronto, who knew more
then I knew of this man. Harry Corlett VE3EX passed
away in 1986 ...and all the history of this man disappeared
along with the plans he had for this carb .... They
were filed in Ottawa, Canada and were on record, as well
held in USA and I imagine the Oil Company.
Pogg was a young very bright design engineer who graduated
University in the depression, and hit paydirt with this
carb. I can remember VE3EX telling me about his seeing
Mr. Pogg in Toronto demonstrating his car and the device
and then after the big deal....Pogg dropped out of sight
retired and whether or not he is alive or not I have
no idea.....just this fantastic story backed up with
having seen the plans and read a mechanics article
from the period.
Also along the same lines is the story of WW2 where
the German scientists learned to turn water into a
fuel to run an engine. Fearing capture in 1945
the plans or formula was splitup between these
loyal Nazis and to this day has never seen the light
of day .... too bad.
