Hello to all,
As I was ask, I am going to try and report on something I know very little
about - Yatchs. A 14ft runabout and a fishing rod is more to my style.

This years race left Sydney on Boxing Day as usual, and the crossing
although a bit rough was not in the extreme, therefore there were not any
big problems at sea.
The Australian super maxi Wild Oats XI crossed the finish line on the 28th
December at about 8am, making history as she crossed.
Her first time in the event, Wild Oats is the first boat to clinch the
line honours, race record, and handicap treble since the inaugural
event1945, in 18 hours 14 minutes and 10 seconds for the 628 nautical mile
race.
The only dissatisfaction was an objection at the presentation, for holding
it before all yatchs had finished. The last boat to finish was at about
midnight on Jan 1st or 2nd.

MELBOURNE TO HOBART (formerly Melbourne to Devonport)
This race, (some times referred to as the west coaster) goes down the west
coat of Tasmania, and this year experienced westerly winds and heavy seas,
and the first yatch finished the 198 nautical miles in good time, but two
hours outside the record.

I confess to using the news reports for all facts and figures, and how to
word this bulletin, and hope that it is of interest to at least a few.
