The same joke, spaghetti trees, was shown on April Fool's Day on the
erstwhile and serious Panorama programme by the BBC in the late 1950s. The
joke worked well on the UK population as, at that time, Pasta was not very
common in the UK. Respected broadcaster Richard Dimebleby did the
commentary. The BBC were inundated the next day with requests on how to
find out more about spaghetti growing!
