Hi Graham and all,

"...ex A3712 which infers I was an SWL way back in'63."

Hmmm, I guess WPE2MTN infers I was one about that time too, also a member
of the Newark (NJ) News Radio Club (NNRC). Nothing has changed, I'm still
an SWL and as long as I have a receiver always will remain one. A license
to transmit doen't negate another aspect of the radio hobby. BTW, I have
been a rail fan since those days, don't intend to give up my interest in
trains either.

Hey, anybody out there remember the Popular Electronics (WPE) SWL club? I
used to send out plenty of QSLs, got plenty in return. Hams appreciate
SWL reports and often QSL them. Still I hear Hams asking for them when
the sign off, giving address information and such.

I guess there are some, or at least one who looks down his nose at anyone
he thinks is inferior just because he hasn't had an HF license as long as
he. I always thought we elmered newcomers but some simply can't be
helpful toward bringing in new blood and improving Amateur Radio. They
would rather drive them away and gripe that the Internet is at fault.
Thankfully I had plenty of helpful Hams elmering me along and return the
favor whenever possible. So, who elmered those skyscraper noses? How
easily they forget their own beginnings and show ingratitude, perhaps a
bit of phase distortion between the ears as well.
