Hi Dick and all,
I agree wholeheartedly, it was a well written article if not a bit
confusing in spots. Well, that sort of thing pointed out my weak spots
and made me think, something we need lot's more of, THINKING!
I can picture one of those long lost cartoons in the Ham mags now. The
XYL spots a chicken climbing the ladder line and calls into the shack
"Honey, kick in that new amp of yours, fried chicken tonight!" (;->)
Since you mentioned IW0EJJ's request for all bulls to WW be written in
English, just a couple of comments I had held in reserve for a long time.
While English may be the "universal language" these days not all Hams
speak it. Sending certain exceptions WW can be an advantage in such cases
and in my opinion are perfectly acceptable. If I see a bull written in a
language I cannot understand I simply skip over it. This however should
not be common practice since such would clutter the system with otherwise
useless traffic. Now it may just be a good idea to send an English
version as well providing the topic is of wider interest. I have seen
this many times, applaud and uphold the practice.
FYI, I have seen that request repeated over and over so many times over
the years I have given up on IW0EJJ as a whiner and no longer read his
complaints copied word for word each time and probably come from a stock
file. It is totally useless to constantly whine about a perceived problem
that doesn't exist, or at least doesn't exist on the greater part of the
network.
Oh BTW, the "ladies and gunpowder" bit was a variation on a historical
fact. In many cases of an army defending the homeland local women would
assist the artillery by passing cannon shot and gunpowder to the gunners.
They assisted in many ways right there on the front lines so are
recognized as heroines. Hmmm, women have played such an important part in
warfare since time began it's a wonder why we only recently let them
join the ranks and fight in uniform alongside the men.
