A fast acting fuse may be protected by a solid state device blowing first.
I don't know about those glowing FETs, but I have had transistors and ICs
explode in my face with painful results. Good thing I wear glasses for
close work. (;->)
Hmmm, so you are one of the many operators of the IC-706 Mk2G! Great
little rig for home and mobile, all you need (and nothing more) in one
compact box. Won't even attempt to fix one though, Yeah, due to
circumcisions beyond my control I have become an appliance operator and
miss the days working in the laBORatory. MUAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!
Yeah, I remember when my radios glowed in the dark, needed niether light
nor heat in the shack. Although in a cool basement the radio room needed
a 10.000 BTU air conditioner in summer just to be bearable.
A lot of hams out there may not realize that broadcast installations
often direct the transmitter exhaust into the building for heat in winter
and out through a vent in summer.
YUP! Tubes make an excellent electric fire, to borrow a British term.

Anyway, now that the northern hemisphere is experiencing summer band
conditions the AMers are silent except for 40M before the broadcasters
come alive. Do I REALY have to mention they're not on 10 either? (;->)
