I very often heard AM signals on 10 mtr's. The stations sometimes
used very old homemade equipment from a long time ago.
In Holland we are not allowed to use FM or AM below 10 mtr's.
The mode is ok when it comes to readability. FM mode is not really
suitable for dx-ing on HF. Most of the time the signals get distorted.
Signals coming from around 3000 kilometers however still are not distorted.
AM is a better mode for dx-ing than FM if the signals are not strong.
If you have LFI in the neigbourhood they can hear exactly hear
what you say, hi. With FM; no problems.
So AM is not A (ntique) M (ode) but still a mode we could use eg
on a HF band where we have enough space like on 10 mtr's
