"Potatoes
To mash
Mash boiled and drained potatoes with a potato masher. Add a little
butter, warm milk and pepper. If a little baking powder is added, the
potatoes will be light and fluffy."
From my mother's old New Zealand cookery book (1956 edition), printed by a
maker of baking powder, custard powder, cornflour and jelly crystals.
