I'm not starting a thread about nuclear powr plants.
I'm starting a thread about hydroelectric power plants.
Or, for that matter wind powered generators and firewood co-generation systems.
There are low technology, cheap, zero CO2, renewable power sources. but
you will find some econut saying that you have to use still-under-development
technology to solve the techologies.

The problem about biomass is that you could use food-grade stuff, but you
have also a lot of low-quality material that's thrown away.
Or, to but fatcs more straight, sugar factories were closed and beet crops
converted to grass or other cultivations because the sugar demand is too low.
(And of course a lot of sugar workers were fired)

In the 1980's Fiat made an interesting experiment: they took their 903 cc engine, added
a speed control to run it at 3000 rpm, added a 3-phase alternator
and modified the cooling system to be connected to an household
heating system or a autovotive radiator in the summer.
You got 15 kW of electricity and anoter 25 kW of heat.

The 903cc motor was an old-style engine, and simply tuning or
changing the carburetor permitted to use petrol, LPG, methane, ethanol or biogas
(ie. a mix of methane and other gases obtained from cow manure deposits).

It worked.
Unfortunately the system hadn't a big success, partly because Fiat wasn't
very appointed to advertize it, and partly because the market
was not very interested.

Anyway I propose the hemp-powered electric power plant.
To stop protesters simply bypass the exausts filters and play Bob Marley and UB 40
on the PA....

Mike
