Hi,

Apparently I wrongly assumed that the KPC3, like others in the
Kantronics range, had a battery backed clock chip inside.

Looking at the Kantronics website, I see that they sell an optional
extra for the KPC3 in the form of a clock kit. Now looking at picture on
the site of the 'kit', it seems to be just a single plug in IC of
perhaps 14 or 16 pins of the narrow spacing variety.... I assume the
crystal for the clock oscillator may be already fitted in the standard
KPC3's PCB?

I fancy this particular IC is identical to one I have designed around in
the dim and distant past. It was just a basic clock IC, with no CMOS
battery backed memory and no additional functions such as the alarms
found in the more complex clock IC which was later found in the IBM PC
(4016??).

I am almost certain that if I had a scratch around my junk pile, I would
find one. Now, if E20TCM wants to take a look inside his KPC3 and finds
an empty socket for a DIL IC, counts the number of pins, then I will see
if I can find him a suitable IC to fill the gap.
