Packet News No.96 Compiled By RON GU4XGG/GP4IPA Dated.20/11/1996
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Message received by Fax 15/11/1996 from US IPARC President Will Dennis
Attn: To All;
Information from US IPARC.
Subject : U.S. Club Stations.
It has come to the attention of the U.S.Club I.P.A.R/C that we have club
stations I.P.A. that have not been approved by the U.S.Section.
I would like to make it clear, that the U.S.IPARC R/C only approves CLUB
STATIONS that have been approved by the club officers of the U.S.IPARC.In
order for approval, the station must have IPARC approval......We will
provide a list of APPROVED club sations in the future, see "National
Monitor"(Wish I could then I would know what it is all about XGG)
Please see that your "Awards Managers" know this procedure.(Do we have one
? XGG).

Ron, hope you are all well on the island, not underwater yet! A germ of an
idea, not original as I believe Brian g4tre suggested it to me several
years ago.
In the packet news and hopefully newsletter could we publish a request for
interest in a dxpedition for next years ipa contest, and have a serious go
at it. Brian originally suggested Andorra, but others that may appeal to
those on a budget could be EI ipa house, GD GM or how abt g4ipa/mm. To me
GD sounds ideal as there are attractions for the families, also there is a
very active station out there (on the scouts net & gb50un etc.) I will be
willing to compile interest and make tentative enqs with each venue.
Cheers, I feel its time for another big bash like that classic gu 1988.

(I replied to Nigel that I thought it was a very good idea and support it
as an individual but I wonder, as it takes place in NOVEMBER if we ought
to think of South rather than North at that time of the Year Ron XGG)

Hi Ron. Nice to see you are at least still able to get out on Packet. You
should have received your certificate and newsletter by now, I hope you
like the touch of colour now available in the newsletter, that's what
happens when your employer gives you a colour printer! I now receive the
newsletter on disk and can print it out direct so that should save some
time. I have had to delay sending a certificate out to Ken G0JXP as our
man printed out the wrong one for Ken so it is being redone. The remainder
of the newsletters should be posted on Monday.
DEREK G0RZP @ GB7WRG
(Very impressed with the result Derek and from IPARC many thanks to all
concerned)

The position here in The Channel Islands now is :- We depend on a radio
link 9600 baud UHF from a node in Guernsey to a node situated at North
Hessary Tor in Devon kindly operated for us by Frank G0GSR, and the
antenna is mounted on the BBC TV mast.THe antenna has now suffered a
partial failure as it is in a very exposed site near Princetown.
To replace it requires the services of BBC riggers, and as there is only
one resident in the South West they have to be brought in from outside the
region. In future, if permission was given, we would have to pay the FULL
cost of these riggers, and in addition we would have to pay a full
commercial yearly rental. This is quite beyond the means of the small
number of Packet Groups in the Islands.I gather that the operators of WD
repeater will also have the same problem.
At the moment we are using a "Floppy" to and from GB7PAB which takes the
outgoing Bulls, of which there are few, and the outgoing PRIVATE Mail. The
incoming BULS are carried on the return leg.PRIVATE mail is still going to
another BBS for transmission to Guernsey via.the node at NHT as we were
not sure what was the long term future for NHT.
Efforts will be made in the near future to route the PRIVATE Mail to
GB7PAB so that it is carried by the "Snail Mail".Slight snag here is that
the sysop is resident only on weekends to change the routing.
We anticipate that this will be the scenario until the weather improves in
the Spring.
We have just about reached the limit of our system improval this end but
we are activley looking at other radio paths.
Again my regrets if you have been sending me mail and getting them
returned
it is just as frustrating for me having no correspondence to work with.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Had a look for the net last Sunday on 80 mtrs. heard Brian G4FRG but he
did not hear me.Sometime later I heard part of the net further up the band
being run by Gary F5VDM who was doing a grand job,but as he was doing so
well and hearing stations that I had problems with I thought it was better
to let him carry on.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thats my lot for this week. You should all have had your printed IPARC News
by this time.
My best to you and your families.
