Hi all,
The last message SP message I received from Ron GU4XGG, our packet
newsletter editor, took 10 days to reach here. There has been,(and still
is), problems in despatching newsletters from Guernsey. In the last SP
from Ron says and I quote,
' We only have a High Speed ferry now and that cannot operate in waves
beyond eight feet in height, and the last few days they have been in
excess of sixteen. The Airport has also been closed with winds of 70 mph
gusting across the runway.
At last I have found out the true state of the Packet in and out of
Guernsey. It looks as though NHT is out for the winter if not for all
time, as the BBS (I think he means BBC) want the cost of the riggers paid,
and as they come from outside the South West. They also want a yearly
rental charge to put our antenna on the mast. This could amount to several
thousands of pounds and far beyond our budget.
The outgoing mail and incoming bulls come via GB7PAB using floppy and the
"Snail Mail" but the incoming PRIVATE Mail goes to another BBS and then to
NHT which is not working. So that now has to be rerouted to PAB so that it
goes on the same Floppy service. Hence the Private Mail gettin returned to
sender.
If you could paste this to all at IPARC from your end it would save me
repeating the story'
Ron is on 80mtrs net on Sundays 3.762 or there abouts at 16.00 and
19.00hrs.
Messages can be passed on, for the time being, and newsletters will appear
from GU from time to time,
regards and
73 - Brian, G4FRG @ GB7TJZ. RAFARS 208.
