Hello everyone,
We are planning an extended trip round the world on a sailing yacht, part of
the plan is to visit as many islands as possible and put them on the air.
We want to be active on 160-6m. We hope to leave South Africa no later than
May 1999.
I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with !
1) Licensing, I know this would be no problem with CEPT countries but
what about others, how long can we expect to wait for permission to operate
on most islands?
2) I would like to put a decent signal on the air so I am hoping to
take good antennas, I am looking for a antenna design that I can fold up
and assemble easy and that I can transport on a 3m rubber duck to get it
from the yacht to the shore. Any ideas/plans would be VERY wellcome !
3) I am looking for an amplifier that will run of 12V so it can be
used on the yacht and on the island, running from a battery charged by a
generator when on shore. I suppose 500w would be OK, any information on
amps like this would be interesting.
4) I am looking for a list of IOTA islands, maybe with an indication
of 'most wanted' status so that I can plan the trip a bit better.
5) I suppose I would need a QSL manager, any suggestions/offers :-)
6) Are there IOTA nets, freq's that I should remember or look out for ?
Any other information would be appreciated, our plans are very advanced
and we would really like to make this a worth while expedition so that
everyone could benefit.
