Like your GM namesake, you've clearly got a longer memory than I have, Andy,
since I don't recall what you're referring to.
As I have, personally, introduced several young amateurs to the hobby and
found instructors for them, I find it unlikely.
I do recall bulletins regarding the illegal activities of unlicenced CB
operators - and my views haven't changed on that.
Nevertheless, my feelings of five or six years back regarding the decline in
packet radio haven't changed. We certainly wouldn't have seen bulletins
wishing unspeakable diseases, such as AIDS, on our foundation instructors,
as I recently had the misfortune to download and read.
Yes, things have gone to the dogs on *UK* packet radio -- I can't say I'm
sorry to have been away from it -- and I do have much better things to do
these days.
