Hi Bob and readers,
"It does not work that way, Warren."
Oh yes it does, I didn't research all that spam blocking software the
ISPs use for nothing. Mail Washer works exactly the same way, it's just a
scaled down version of the professional stuff. The difference is that YOU
have control over it while the only control you have with the ISP is to
use Webmail to bypass it.
"...you look at the header and make your own decision whether to delete
without downloading."
Have you ever used Outlook Distress? (Outlook Express) The only
difference here is it downloads, then gives you the choice of opening it
or not so you can delete it untouched. That's a very safe way to do it
since untrusted e-mail can contain a virus that runs upon opening the
message, you don't have to open any attatchments, there may not even be
any. Yeah, there's a bit of controversy there, some still don't believe
there can be something imbedded in the HTML and the safe way is to set
the reader to open it in ASCII. Anyway, what's the difference if spam or
anything else is downloaded or not? The important bit is whether or not
you choose to open it.
BTW, Webmail gives you the same options and functionality as Mail Washer
but is much better since it doesn't depend on your e-mail program at all,
rather works with your browser.
