Hi All,
On this topic there has been some valuable information. I had very little
spam mail until I struggled to get WIN2K operation satisfactorily on the
internet last year. Since then there have been lots of predominantly
pharmaceutical organisations offerin all kinds of "snake oil" to improve
my life. I obviously did something wrong! Very few have been downloaded
due to the help of Mailwasher and I notice that many cannot be bounced
now.
However the point of this is that I do have filters set in Mailwasher yet
I have been surprised just how many legitimate emails have been marked as
spam positively, possibly or likely to be spam by my Mailwasher and my
ISP's Spam Assassin. Had I not been prepared to intervene manually I would
have lost many useful emails and got others that have been missed which I
would not have wanted.
So my conclusion as with many other aspects of computer operation is that
leaving everything set to avoid any need for intelligent intervention can
create plenty of problems when things dont work as expected. The same goes
for automatic system or anti virus upgrades. Only by manual intervention
have I ensured that "I" have full control over my computer system. So far
it has served me well after six years of internet operation.
Cheers and
