Hello Paul and readers,

You'll never find the li'l bugger with the name spelled like that, it's
"BAGEL" like the famous Jewish treat.

Anyway, it's a variant on an oldie and the anti-virus people are well up
on it. Why chase from pillar to post looking for protection when all you
have to do is keep your definition files up to date?

Now if you want some REALLY useful information, check out some of the
hack/crack web sites and find out about "Virus Wars" coming to a computer
near you soon. Yes, there's a sort of a price war going on, they're
writing stuff to kill each-other's viri while at the same time doing
their own damage. Reminds me of the days of Al Capone and Machine Gun
Kelly shooting it out on the streets of Chicago. (;->)

Just taking some good precautions like taking a good look at your e-mail
before opening it is about the best protection there is. "Hold it up to
the light" and if you find any suspicious "white powder" in there just
don't open it, delete it. With all the spoofing going on, TRUST NO ONE
and check out EVERYTHING very closely, that bit of e-mail just may not
have come from who you think it did.

If you have doubts and still don't want to dump what could be a valid
message, save it to a temp folder unopened and ask the sender for
confirmation. If it's really from aunt Sadie go ahead and open it, if not
dump it in the bit bucket where it can do no harm.

Then again, does aunt Sadie's computer have a virus? Hmmmm, reminds me of
my cousin who dissects every fish she eats ever since choking on a bone.
I can't blame her even if it takes an hour for her to finish, once burned
twice shy. CAUTION is the operative these days, so never forget my pet
phrase, "When in doubt, don't."
