Hi Ian and all,
Well, two things nobody seems to have a handle on, or at least those that
do aren't letting us in on the secret. First, what is a ring main and how
does it work? Second, you still haven't mentioned how dByears are
calculated. OK, obviously it uses the dB scale, but upon WHAT is it
based? My calc can't work out anything without starting SOMEWHERE! If you
rate the output power of your transmitter in horsepower (a local radio
station does for giggles from the engineering students) it would make
sense, but without a point of reference (0dByears=WHAT?) you will forever
remain a mystery. Frustrating little bugger you! (;->)
OK, now's my chance to have a bit more fun.
Acording to Ensign Pavel Chekov, everything is "a Russian inwention".
Actually, most were PARALELL inventions, a version coming from several
countries around the same time. Officially, whoever patents first is the
winner, but this rule is often overlooked so each country lays claim for
it's own political interests.
The first PRACTICAL TV system was invented by a Russian Jew, Zworkin and
developed by another, Sarnoff, who headed the Hazeltine Research
Corporation and it's better known radio/TV subsidiary, RCA. Now, does
that make television a Russian, American or Jewish invention?
BTW, the first experimental B&W and later color TV transmissions were
invented at CBS Labs and used by CBS TV Corporation until better systems
were developed by Hazeltine (RCA). FYI, Hazeltine Laboratories and RCA
designed more than TVs! Thier designs, patents and more can be found in
not only RCA products, but Dumont, Electrohome (Canada) Muntz, and even
Hallicrafters plus much, much more. Russian inwentions every one! (;->)
Getting serious for just a moment, (I do rarely) the ONLY practical place
to fuse a power line is at it's source, such as the service distribution
panel. the only purpose of a fuse or breaker is to protect the LINE, not
the appliance from fire. With few exceptions, it makes no sense to put a
fuse on the load end and the practice was discontinued in the US many
years ago. All automatic circuit protection interruptions are performed
at the panel and Hams with mobile rigs are well advised to put the fuse
at the battery. In all cases, if the line should short and no source
protection is provided, POOF, everything goes up in flames. FYI, NEVER
fuse the negative ground return lead for the same reason a mains neutral
is never interrupted. It's there as a current carrying conductor, so if
interrupted, the current will find an alternate path causing damage,
injury or even death.
