When my sister was about 10 years old ( maybe 30 years ago ) she bought, with
her own money, a popcorn pack for my fathers Christmas present.
On unwrapping it my father went into the outhouse, got a petrol stove and, in
the front room, made the popcorn on it. My sister and I evacuated the house
while he did this. After he had turned the stove off we re entered the house.
When I asked him why he had used the petrol stove rather than the cooker not
5 yards away in the kitchen he said he did not wish to miss a programme on
the telly
Next Christmas I bought him a VCR.
